I'm going to be late returning it
You can't extend a rental, so message the lender now and send it back as soon as you can. The lender can raise a late return charge, and after 7 days a piece is treated as not returned.
Updated 6 October 2026
Rentals can't be extended in the app, and the dates can't be changed. If it's going to be late, tell the lender now and get it back to them as soon as you can.
What to do first
- Message the lender from the booking and say when it'll be back.
- Send it as soon as you can, in the prepaid return satchel. Hand it in at the counter and ask for a receipt.
- Press I've posted it back, so the lender knows it's on its way.
- Add the tracking from your receipt with Add return tracking.
- If something serious has come up, contact us too: More options, then Need help with this booking? and Contact Ourfit.
For a pickup rental, agree a new time with the lender and press I've returned it once it's back in their hands.
Your return date
It's on the booking, under Return by. As it gets close the booking says Return due, and Return overdue once it's passed.

If the post office is closed on your return date, the booking tells you which day to post it instead, and posting then is on time.
What being late can cost
There's no automatic late fee. Once the piece is back, the lender can raise a late return charge through the booking, within 2 days of it arriving. You then have 5 days to accept, counter or contest it, and Ourfit decides if you can't agree.
Late returns can be charged per day, and never more than the cap you saw before you booked. A piece that still isn't back 7 days after the return date is treated as not returned, and the charge can reach the full cap, less any late fees already charged.
What to send
If you're asked about it, your dated post office receipt and the return tracking are what count. So are your messages with the lender on Ourfit.
