Request to rent and pay

Pick your dates and how you'll get it, check the total, and authorise your card. You're only charged if the lender accepts.

Updated 6 October 2026

When you've found a piece, you ask the lender for your dates. Nothing is charged until they say yes.

Choose your dates

On the piece, press Request to book. The calendar asks How will you get it? first: Pickup or Express Post, if the lender offers both. Posting takes time, so greyed days include the time to post it to you and back.

Tap the day you want it to arrive. Allow 1-2 days before your event. Under How long?, pick the length of the rental: 4 or 8 days. Posting days sit outside it, so they don't come out of your rental. The summary shows your first and last day. It's yours from the first day through the last. Press Confirm these dates.

Then check the size on the piece and press Request to book again.

Check the request

The request page has everything in one place:

  • Your dates. When it arrives and when to return it.
  • Delivery & return. Express Post is posted to you with a prepaid return. Pickup & return is in person with the lender. Turn off Deliver and return the same way to collect in person and post it back, or the other way round.
  • Your delivery address. The lender only sees your suburb until your booking is accepted.
  • Getting it and Giving it back. Each step with its day.
  • What's the occasion? and Add a note. Both optional, and both help the lender.
  • Price breakdown. The rental, delivery and the total. Cleaning is included.

If you choose pickup, you're asked to agree to the in-person pickup terms first: you meet the lender to collect and return the piece, and you agree a safe public place and time in messages.

Authorise your card

Press Continue to payment. You pay by credit or debit card, through Stripe, and Ourfit never stores your full card number. Add or choose a card, tick to agree to the damage, late fee and dispute terms, and press Authorise.

This puts a temporary hold on the total. It may reduce your available balance or show as pending. You're only charged if the lender accepts. If they decline, or you withdraw the request, the hold is released, usually within 5-7 days.

When you're charged

  • The lender accepts. Your card is charged automatically and the booking is confirmed. There's no extra step.
  • The lender declines, or doesn't answer in time. Nothing is charged and the hold is released.
  • The charge doesn't go through. The booking shows Payment needs attention. Fix it from the booking before its deadline, or the booking ends and nothing is charged.

Lenders have 2 days to answer. Your booking shows how long they have left.

You can request more than one piece for the same dates. Each request a lender accepts becomes a confirmed, charged booking.
